Statement of the Royal Government of Cambodia on further steps to strengthen democracy and political space
On 03 December 2018, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has released a statement on further steps to strengthen democracy and political space. The ministry has underlined the position and further steps to be taken to uphold the Royal Government of Cambodia’s aforementioned invaluable achievements and to improve the political climate and democratic space for the citizens to exercise their legitimate rights and freedoms in the spirit of national reconciliation. Those are including:
- Election of the sixth legislature of the National Assembly on 29 July 2018,
- Partnership with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in all aspects of social development,
- Labor and trade union rights,
- Freedom of press and freedom of expression in accordance with the Constitution and laws in force,
- Policy and legal frameworks to manage the land sector, resolving the outstanding claims of sugarcane ELCs and other pending land disputes as well as promoting and accelerating nation-wide land registration including land for indigenous communities, providing the social land concession and land for production to landless people.
